Hi, My name is Tom Cafferty. I live in New Jersey with my wife and three children. I am a software engineer by profession.
The idea of the site came upon consideration of my interest and love of the game of football and an ever-increasing love of God. Besides watching football games, I also very much enjoy the draft, and analyzing collected football data. The belief that our likes, interests and experiences can all be used by God for His kingdom helped solidify the idea. Nothing, except sin, is outside or separated from God. I have increasingly felt that it is best to have God fully integrated in our daily lives. Present in all that we do, in our work, hobbies, thoughts and deeds.
The onset of secularization has removed this integrated lifestyle that was the general way of life going back just 200 years. The integration of religion with daily activities, social life, education, welfare, sports and entertainment existed for a large portion and perhaps the majority of human existence.
Therefore the site emerged as one that posts writings on God alongside ones on football. For me to write solely about football would be denying the ultimate source from which whatever is true , beautiful and good about the sport comes from. To write solely about God would be to put on blinders and ignore the good of His creations. The website address (findingGodinallthings.com) comes from the ideas of Saint Ignatius of Loyola who professed on finding God in all things. One of his quotes is
“All the things in this world are gifts of God, created for us, to be the means by which we can come to know him better, love him more surely, and serve him more faithfully.” – St. Ignatius of Loyola
A similar but slightly different perspective is professed as
“Everything is Grace” – St Therese of Lisieux
I invite you to explore the site and join the conversation on how we can find God in every aspect of our lives, from Monday Night Football to Sunday morning Mass.
If you would like to send a message please do.
