Fiery, Fearless, and Friendly: A History of Special Teams Aces and Kindred-Spirit Saints

The traits and characteristics that make great special teams players are also ones that make great saints. Both are fiery and passionate about their mission. They tend to be fearless in the threat of harm. They are friendly to teammates and people. Here is a timeline for the Super Bowl era of one great special teams player covering most if not all of the years. The dates shown for players tends to be when they were tops in their field. If ramping up or in decline then another player who was tops is shown. This is not an all inclusive list of the top special teams players as only one top player was chosen to cover the years. Interspersed are some of the special teams rule changes that affected the game.

Following selected special teams players is a kindred spirit saint that in some ways shared common traits, personalities or circumstances.

Only an elite select few get to demonstrate virtues on the NFL gridiron. However, like the Saints, we all get to demonstrate our passion, fortitude and charity in our everyday lives.

Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.
For everyone who asks, receives; and the one who seeks, finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened. – Matthew 7:7-8
